A harmonious symphony of flavors, true reflection of the Stellenbosch terroir.

Morgenster Lourens River Valley is a blend of Bordeaux red grape varieties created in cooperation with Pierre Lurton of Château Cheval Blanc (47% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon). A beautiful and bright ruby color, this wine, aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, offers complex flavors of blackcurrant, black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, dried rose petals, thyme and spices such as cloves. Well-integrated vanilla, cocoa and caramel melt onto the palate. Merlot and Cabernet Franc express themselves more than Cabernet Sauvignon. Elegant on the palate, the silky, round tannins bring finesse that concludes with a fine balance between fruit, oak and acidity.

Morgenster Estate is located in Somerset West, in the Stellenbosch region. The estate was founded by Giulio Bertrand, an Italian who fell in love with South Africa and the Cape vineyards. In 1992, after a career in textiles, he moved to South Africa and bought Morgenster Farm. He called on Pierre Lurton of Château Cheval Blanc and Château d'Yquem in Bordeaux to perfect the wine. Then, in partnership with the Perugia Olive Oil Institute, he imported and planted 17 varieties of specially selected olives. Of the estate's 200 hectares, 74 hectares are planted with vines and olive trees, with the rest left to nature. Giulio Bertrand passed away in 2018. Today, his 2 daughters, Federica and Alessandra, are pursuing his dream.
